Dayanara Ruiz, will work as Fundraising. She is a recent graduate from UC Los Angeles, where she learned about policies and government structures and their effects on marginalized communities. Dayanara grew up in the border region of San Diego- Tijuana, where she was able to experience and gain a firsthand perspective on the effects that the distribution of resources has on communities. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health from USC, in order to further understand the disparities that access to basic needs has on our society. Dayanara expressed that her heart lies in finding vessels to provide underprivileged communities access to quality health and education, and she is working on gaining the academic tools to in a future assist in the accomplishment of this dream. Her desire to be a part of the ONE Children’s Foundation comes from the mix of academic and personal interests, and in our current humanitarian crisis it is vital to assist this team that is trying to provide relief through the COVID-19 Humanitarian Relief Campaign.

Sofia Nelson and Nanitzia Comparán will join the team as Immigration Advocates. Nanitzia is a transnational student pursuing a double-major in Communication and International Studies Political Science at UC San Diego. Nanitzia grew up in Tijuana, Mexico, and after graduating high school she decided to pursue higher education in the U.S. As a transnational student, she began to cross the border frequently and this interaction gave her a new perspective on the world. She explains that her passion for immigration came with her awareness of the responsibilities that come with the privileges she is granted every day. This has made her committed to lending her voice to those who are not able to speak up by themselves, especially at these uncertain times. Nanitzia hopes that she will be able to combine her passion for immigration and the media, to collectively create change through media involved projects, activism, and policies. Her interest in joining the Immigration Nexus team comes from her love for the media, immigration, volunteering, and desire to make a difference in the world.

Sofia is currently a student at UC San Diego pursuing a major in International Political Science and two minors in Urban Studies & Planning and Data Analysis. Similar to her new colleagues, Sofia also grew up in the binational mega-region of San Diego- Tijuana. Her exposure to the drastic contrast between these two urban landscapes challenged Sofia’s perception of standards of living across the globe. It made her wonder why Western ideologies were not as successful in the development of Latin American nations, and the role that culture plays in the creation of successful development policies in this region. Sofia grew up witnessing the significant gap between struggles on both sides of the border and hopes to apply her perspective and privilege towards the creation of policies that increase living standards, access to opportunities, and socio-economic mobility in the Latin American region. Now, Sofia strives to understand the world that we live in through the power of policy and data. She looks forward to being part of the Immigration Nexus team to educate our communities in the struggles and obstacles faced as a 21st century immigrant and the role of policy in shaping their lives.

We are delighted to have them on board as part of our team. We are sure they will bring new ideas and perspectives to better strengthen our organization. Donate Now to Support Supplies for Border Shelters and Local Families

April 3, 2020 (Los Angeles, CA) – Led by actress and humanitarian Ana De La Reguera, ONE Children’s Foundation is launching a fundraising campaign to help support immigrant children and their families for their urgent needs during this unprecedented period in history.

As the COVID-19 pandemic touches every corner of the globe, ONE Children’s Foundation is working to assist the immigrant community along the southern border and in the L.A. area who has little or no access to healthcare, and have limited access to food, housing, and other necessities.

Many undocumented immigrant families living in the U.S. are day laborers who, if still working, are at a much higher risk for contracting COVID-19 due to inadequate work environments; while other immigrants are now out of work because of the pandemic, and do not qualify for government aid.

“As the global pandemic continues to ravage the planet, we have an obligation to help those in our local communities who are most vulnerable and need the basics that many of us take for granted,” said De La Reguera. “I am urging those who are able, to make a financial donation to ONE Children’s Foundation today that will provide urgent supplies to shelters at the border and to local immigrant families.”

Estamos muy contentos de compartirles que el próximo Sábado 26 de Octubre haremos una tercera visita a nuestros amigos del albergue Misión Evangélica Roca de Salvación y también por segunda ocasión a Casa Hogar El Puente.
En nuestra última visita a el albergue Misión Evangélica Roca de Salvación nos percatamos de la urgente necesidad que tiene de instalar 10 nuevas ventanas, ya que dicho albergue hospeda a más de 30 niños y alrededor de 30 adultos. El otoño ya ha comenzado y las temperaturas comienzan a bajar y la época de lluvias se acerca, esto da pie a que los niños se puedan resfriar si no están bien resguardados.
Es indispensable el apoyo de todos ustedes, por lo cual hemos lanzado una iniciativa “ Adopta una Ventana”. El costo de cada ventana ya instalada es de $125 USD con mosquitero. Tu puedes adoptar una ventana que protegerá a tantos niños que esperan en el albergue. Es sumamente urgente cambiar estas ventanas ya que hay varias ventanas rotas y otras que ni siquiera cuentan con ventanas y únicamente están cubiertas por una sábana o cobija. ¡¡Tu apoyo financiero y muy importante!!

Además estamos solicitando para ambos albergues lo siguiente:
Artículos escolares,Libretas, plumas, lápices, gomas, colores,Libros, Cuentos en español, material didáctico, libros en ingles con imágenes, etc.
Artículos de higiene personal: Jabón, shampoo, desodorante, Toallas sanitarias, etc.

We made a brief stop in Costco, to buy some delicious pizzas (who doesn’t love pizza?) to share with the children and their families And make other purchases of snacks, cookies and personal hygiene items to give to children and families.
Lourdes from Families Belong Together, was waiting for us to kindly guide us to the shelter as she always does.

When we arrived at Roca de Salvación, we were pleasantly surprised that for the time being the children were already performing other activities with Border Angels who were visiting along with Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson from Good Chance Theater from the UK. It was a pleasure to greet them and spend some time with them as well.

We are happy to have been able to contribute and bring donations of books for the children to continue learning, clothes and backpacks, paintings, canvas, brushes and other supplies. The children had a fun, creative and artistic afternoon, they painted beautiful artworks with watercolors, and some of them painted their flags, remembering their home countries. Also volunteers in collaboration with FBTMX read stories to the children while they ate their pizza. This is a project called “El Rincon del Cuento/The corner of the story” and we’re glad we contributed with books to create this space.

We thank Actors for a Cause, Jordi and Montse for the support of this trip and donations.

This effort was coordinated by the wonderful team of Families Belong Together Mexico lead by Soraya Vázquez, Lourdes Medrano and Othir Santistevan.
The shelters that we were able to contribute to were Misión Evangélica Roca de Salvación, Volviendo a la Patria and El Puente, and the managers in charge of the shelters: Pastor Salvador Zepeda, Ramón Raúl López Hernández and Maicol Gómez respectively, picked up the mattresses at the warehouse of FBT Mexico.
After the shelters picked up the mattresses, they headed to Casa Hogar El Puente, which is a refuge driven by Central American migrants and for migrants with the desire to support women and children who are the most vulnerable.
They visited the Misión Evangélica Roca de Salvación the second time, where they were already installing the mattresses to give that same night a better rest for more migrant families.

Claudia and Montse together with the FBT Mexico team, finished their activities with a late lunch while planning the next visit to Tijuana as they were very moved by the urgent need that exists on the other side of the southern border and that ONE wishes to be present and contribute as much as possible.

Con mucho gusto les compartimos que esta semana Claudia Pinto, directora de ONE Children’s Foundation acompañada de Montse Blanco, colaboradora de ONE, viajaron a Tijuana a hacer entrega de un donativo de colchones a albergues que reciben a imigrantes con tanto cariño y dedicación a migrantes en la frontera.
Esta donación fue posible gracias a la generosa contribución de María de Luna, miembro de la junta directiva de ONE y a Fernando de Luna de FDS Luxury Auto, les agradecemos de todo corazón su increíble apoyo.
Esta labor fue coordinada por el maravilloso equipo de Families Belong Together México conformado por Soraya Vázquez, Lourdes Medrano y Othir Santistevan.
Los albergues a los cuales pudimos dar apoyo fueron Misión Evangélica Roca de Salvación, Volviendo a la Patria y El Puente y los encargados de los albergues: Pastor Salvador Zepeda, Ramón Raúl López Hernández y Maicol Gómez respectivamente, fueron a recibir los colchones a la bodega de FBT México.
Después de la entrega de los colchones, se trasladaron a Casa Hogar El Puente, el cual es un refugio impulsado por migrantes centroamericanos y para migrantes con el deseo de apoyar a mujeres y niños los cuales son los más vulnerables.
Visitaron por segunda ocasión a Misión Evangélica Roca de Salvación donde ya se encontraban instalando los colchones para poder dar esa misma noche un mejor descanso a más familias migrantes.
Claudia y Montse junto con el equipo de FBT México, cerraron actividades con una merienda mientras planeaban la próxima visita a Tijuana ya que quedaron muy conmovidas por la urgente necesidad que existe al otro lado de la frontera sur y que ONE desea estar presente y apoyar en la medida de lo posible.
