Los Angeles, CA. October 16, 2017 – A month after the last devastating earthquake struck central and southern Mexico, four Mexican artists living in Los Angeles join forces in a campaign to help the victims. The Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco contributes to the cause by offering a limited edition T-shirt featuring his own original design.
With the creation of “Los Angeles in Mexico”, Karla Souza, Kate del Castillo, Ana de la Reguera and Olga Segura want to secure long-term support for rebuilding affected areas. “The great efforts made to date are just the tip of the iceberg. Now the commitment begins for affected families to have shelter, water, electricity and quality of life, and that requires a serious follow-up, to which “Los Angeles in Mexico” supports as its central mission.” Ana de la Reguera says.
“Just a few weeks after the earthquake, the news stories change, people forget and unfortunately, the efforts and donations start to fall. That’s why we need to stay together and find new ways to galvanize support.” explains Karla.
The four actresses, with the help of their “Angels” (other Hispanic artists who are joining the campaign), will be in charge of identifying the specific non-governmental organizations that best operate in each area. “We want to deliver the proceeds directly, without intermediaries, to those reliable organizations. We will follow up on various projects and show the results to our donors, to restore any lost confidence in this noble cause,” says Kate. “On top of that, this union between us four is extremely important, since it rectifies that the union between us Latinas is both possible and indispensable.” adds Olga.
“Los Angeles in Mexico” is starting with the website www.losangelesenmexico.com where donations can be made directly or through the purchase of Gabriel Orozco’s custom shirts supporting the cause.
“Our commitment will not be a month or two, but until we see the results,” concludes Ana. For more information about Los Angeles in Mexico, to donate or buy a t-shirt, and to see upcoming events, please visit www.losangelesenmexico.com
