Esmeralda's Visit

Esmeralda’s Visit

English Version

On March 8th, Esmeralda Pimental visited San Miguel de Tecuanipa; accompanied by Scarlett from TVUDLAP, Oscar our engineer from Constructora Misión La Paz, and Gaby from Fundación VeracruzANA.

Once arriving to Tecuanipa, the first stop made was to the home of the González family; there we spoke with Mr. Jaime and his sons Enrique and Jaime as they worked on the construction. Mr. Jaime mentioned that his wife Julia had to leave for Atlixco due to her new job, which she had to get following the earthquake; with the loss of her oven, Julia had to find another source of income to help support her family. They were able to watch as the sediment was being placed, Oscar, the engineer, explained how they had worked through the drawn of the land.

People from the village began to arrive to where they were, many of them had been severely affected by the damages the earthquake caused; Esmeralda spoke with many of them, listening to their requests and offering them words of encouragement that managed to alleviate their pain in the moment, understanding that their reality was complicated. Gaby spoke with them honestly about the possibility of Los Ángeles en México, and the criteria needed for families to receive support; many of them took note. After, they payed a visit to three other families, inspecting the damages of their homes.

Once the homes had been visited, accompanied by Oscar the engineer, who recognized the condition they were in, the group went to visit the Rojas family. Upon arrival they were surprised with a delicious home cooked pozole by Don Victor’s family. They began their visit with a tour of the home; the walls are once again standing with the electric and hydraulic system installed. The next steps will be to cast and repel the walls, was expected to begin the following week. The Rojas family expressed their excitement and gratitude, knowing that they will soon have a roof to sleep under; the entire family have been sleeping in a single room.

The meal was very pleasant, between the talk and laughs from little Miguel Ángel, who is only 2 years old but holds a strong attitude; he would not let anyone take his picture. That day, Miguel Ángel was wearing red boots, a shirt and sombrero, none of these things stopped him from sitting on the ground, playing with the toy cars gifted to him. Ana Gabriela is very noble, she always welcomes them with a giant smile, running to greet them with open arms; she was very happy with the doll she was gifted.

After the meal, the group went to visit Don Tobías; his house is already painted white, this was the last thing needed to be completed. They all were very excited to see his bed and and personal belongings already placed inside; however, it is still saddening seeing the rest of the house empty, for it has been impossible to recover any furniture, all of it is under the ruble. While visiting Don Tobías his nephews stopped by to say hello.

To finalize their trip, they returned one last time to Jaime and Julia’s house; the children had already returned from school. The Los Ángeles en México team was able to speak with little Roberto and Esme, who were still wearing their uniforms; along with them Esmeralda grabbed a shovel, placing a stone to symbolize the home of the González family.
