Leaving Haiti again..
Its does not matter how many times I come to Haiti it always breaks my heart as it did the first time when I came after the earthquake, the rubble is still all over, the sheet tents are endless, the hunger is probably worst than before but I have so much hope, hope is what brings me back, I’m in full training in and of Haiti, I have learned so much by now, I have become a greater listener, I hear what people needs are as well as learned about their culture because coming from the USA we all want to make things work as they work for us in the US because we assume that, that is the best and the right way to do it, but is not necessarily what works here for the people of Haiti.
One example is our precious time, Haitian time is not “on time” but we can learn to get use to waiting and we can try to create the possibility of both parts being on time and if the other part is not on time we just accept that as it is to make things happen.
I think for us foreigners who come here to offer support we must first learn to listen and to be very patient to accomplish our goals, we need to learn to meet half way, I feel that by doing that I have become successful and so far accomplish our organizations goals.
Now that I get ready to travel back home again I feel a some satisfaction for what we have accomplish so far and gratefull for the wonderful people that I have met here who are also working in Haiti on making a difference, those people are key in our goals nothing can be achieved on our own.
Until next month that I will comeback to my wonderful Haiti.
