Los Angeles en Mexico: Olga Segura and Karla Souza, presented their new initiative: Immigration Nexus to a select group of Immigrant Advocates.

Alongside community leaders and collaborators, and before the mainstream media attending the meeting (Univision, Estrella TV, Agencia EFE, Televisa, Hoy Newspaper, La Opinion, among others), Olga and Karla revealed during the press conference details of their new initiative designed to inform and provide resources to our immigrant community in times of the greatest need, like those we are facing today.

“IMMIGRATION NEXUS consists of a new online platform built expressly to group all existing pro-immigrant organizations in one place that are doing an arduous and excellent job in our community.” Claudia Pinto, Director of Los Angeles en Mexico said.

“With just a single click, immigrant families, activists and professionals from different fields will have access to all of the reliable resources providing effective and up-to-date information about services, solutions, and new immigration laws.” Olga added.

Karla Souza explains that IMMIGRATION NEXUS is a free service to immigrants, that “EXCLUSIVELY includes nonprofit organizations, programs and projects, as well as community efforts.”

“At LOS ÁNGELES IN MEXICO we firmly believe that information is one of the best tools we can give to our community,” Ana said, “and we believe that all of this information should be available to all immigrants. We want to empower not only families, but also those who advocate for them. As actors, we have the means and the power to help, and that is why we decided to create this new digital community that will benefit the immigrants directly.”

“Immigrant community members are vulnerable to exploitation because they often have few community contacts and limited knowledge about their rights,” said Mónica Ramírez, President of Justice for Migrant Women and Gender Justice Campaigns Director for National Domestic Workers Alliance. “The Immigration Nexus will make it easier for them to find critical information and support. We are grateful to be included and thankful to everyone involved with this project. It is more important than ever for advocates and community members to be connected.”

“At a time when our immigrant communities are under daily attack, we’re grateful to be a part of the important work that the Immigration Nexus is doing to empower our community with clarity and compassion,” said Sandra Cordero, Director of Families Belong Together. “By sharing this critical information in one easy to find, platform, the Nexus assures that folks are provided with facts needed for their safety and well being as they navigate the overwhelming process of arriving to a new country. This platform is a beautiful way to say immigrants are welcome here!”

At IMMIGRATION NEXUS, a variety of immigration advocates can share their projects and publish their events, reports, videos, photographs, comments, recommendations, profiles of their organizations, announcements, and basic information on how and where to find them. And, although it has just started, the newly-created project already has the participation of various nonprofit organizations, health clinics, pro-bono lawyers, churches, shelters, refugee camps, and other entities that provide support to the hundreds of thousands of families facing immigration issues. Among those who have already joined the platform are: Border Network for Human Rights, La Placita / Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, Centro de los Derechos del Migrante, Inc., California Immigrant Policy Center, Border Angels, Diocesan Migrant and Refugee Services, Inc., Families Belong Together, National Domestic Workers Alliance, Justice For Migrant Woman and Hermandad Mexicana Nacional. https://www.immigrationnexus.org

The artists and activists ended the presentation by sharing an entertaining cocktail at the legendary San Antonio Winery with members of the media, friends, colleagues, collaborators, and the volunteers who came to lend support to the new initiative. Among those present were Mrs. Gil Cedillo, City Councilman of Los Angeles, Mrs. Patricia Lopez, Vice Consul of Guatemala, and Felipe Carrera Aguayo, Consular Chief of the Office of Protection and Legal Aid of the Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles.
